The IGA Variety Brian Treasure Scholarships were established in 1996 to honour the contribution made by the late Brian Treasure to the entertainment industry in Western Australia.
After rewarding more than 120 recipients over eleven years, the IGA Variety Brian Treasure Scholarships were expanded in 2007 to help realise the dreams of even more children – which saw Variety WA present further scholarships to sick, disadvantaged or special needs children, across a diverse range of categories including the arts, entertainment, sporting and education. It total, almost $50,000 worth of specialist tuition and musical equipment was granted to scholarship recipients in 2008 alone.
Applications are open to young people who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs, and are aged 18 years or younger.
Scholarship funding runs from 1 January to 31 December each year, with the annual nomination round usually opening in October and closing in early December.
Successful IGA Variety Brian Treasure Scholarship Recipients are announced before Christmas and are invited to attend an official Scholarship Presentation event early the next year.
