Variety WA brings sunshine to the lives of thousands of needy children through our Sunshine Coaches. Nationally, special schools and other children’s organisations have been the grateful recipients of a fleet of 1052 ‘Sunshine’ coaches travelling Australia, transporting children to their daily activities and other special activities.
 
In most cases, Variety WA asks the children's organisation to contribute one third of the on-road costs, Variety one third and a sponsor is sought for the final third. In some instances Variety will accept a lesser contribution if the organisation is seen to be making an effort to fundraise and have exhausted all avenues.
 
All Sunshine Coach applications are examined by the Variety WA Grants Committee and once approved, the ordering of coach, sign writing, wheelchair conversions (if required) registrations etc, are all organised by the Variety office. Variety will also liaise with the organisation regarding an official presentation and publicity.
  
Variety WA usually registers the vehicle in its own name for a period of at least 12 months, after which time the grant is reviewed and the beneficiary may negotiate a full hand over.
  
In 2006, Variety invested $1.8 million to grant 39 sunshine coaches to children’s institutions nationally.
