THE West Australian Football League’s four-round, pre-season Variety Challenge kicks off this Friday night, February 19, with Subiaco and East Perth to clash at 5.30pm at Medibank Stadium.

The action continues on Saturday night when South Fremantle will host East Fremantle at Fremantle Oval. Rounds Two and Three will be played over the following fortnight, with the fourth round of pre-season to be played on March 13.

The pre-season competition has been named the ‘WAFL Variety Challenge’ to recognise the partnership formed between the children’s charity and WA Football League, which will also see the WAFL donate all gate profits from the four weeks of competition to Variety.

Variety WA provides practical help to enrich the lives of WA's special kids - from overcoming illness, getting mobile again, or just making life a little happier. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers and sponsors, 100% of every tax deductible donation made to Variety WA goes directly to sick, disadvantaged and special needs kids.

In 2009, Variety provided tangible assistance at a grass roots level to 116 individual children and families, while at the same time responding to the needs of the greater community state-wide by supporting major projects and working in partnership with 78 other children’s charities and organisations - to a value of $1.99 million. In total, Variety WA directly assisted 9587 children in 2009.
