A once in a lifetime desert experience

Join Variety WA for an unforgettable fundraising journey, taking participants across the borders of eight deserts to the foothills of legendary Uluru on The Great Deserts 2009 Bash.

Starting in Adelaide on 18 August, this 4,600km colourful convoy will travel through Woomera, Coober Pedy and Erldunda, converging in Alice Springs for a National Bash Event with 2,000 of our interstate counterparts, before continuing onto Menzies, Kalgoorlie and Bruce Rock and finishing with a 21st Birthday Bash celebration in Perth on Saturday 29 August 2009.

What is the Bash?

Full of camaraderie and non-stop fun, the Bash is not a race or a rally. In fact, the most important thing about the Bash is that speed is not important!

This meandering marathon of mateship takes Bashers and their pre-1975 themed cars on an action packed adventure, giving participants the chance to venture into outback WA, meeting wonderful people and visiting spectacular places you might not otherwise see.

There is one major rule all participants (affectionately known as ‘Bashers’) must take seriously: don’t take it seriously! The Bash is designed to keep the FUN in fundraising. Western Australians from all walks of life come together to bribe and cheat their way past the officials, and raise hundreds of thousands of dollars in the process each year.
